Thanks Warren.

For the cap irons in the Seaton chest (1796) the hole in the cap iron is punched through from the lower (concave) side.

I have one capiron like that. But it is so crappy executed that the extra metal is mostly cracked and split. Most old capirons I have, have the extra nut on the convex side.
