Like steve said, it's based off the irons, so with 50 degrees on the cap iron on a common pitch plane, the front edge of the cap iron is 95 degrees different than the board surface.
I think I get a better finish with that setting than with the 125 degree setting that an 80 degree bevel generates, and and still no tearout.
