Shouldn`t that line in your post read "Easily sharpened with the equipment I presently own".

Some time ago Bill convinced me that he could go from a 60 grit grinding wheel directly to 1 micron diamond on CI and get a really good edge quickly so I tried it and it works just as he said it would. One wheel, one plate, one size of abrasive. Hands down the quickest, least expensive, most uncomplicated way to get an edge I had come across so far and I can still quickly sharpen my old laminated blades on that same diamond loaded CI plate.
If you have a different definition and approach to "simple/easy" that can accommodate as broad a range of steel I`d like to hear it.
BTW-I don`t like waterstones and especially oilstones (though I own at least a half dozen of each) so please don`t mention them in your reply.
