The thing to keep in mind is that neither the threads, nor the ads are the truth. They are basically the news. Having worked partially in public affairs it amazed me how few people understood the idea of news. You could tell it bothered them it wasn't happy, or slanted their way, or didn't cover topics that were more important, in their minds. But no, the news is what is new. Knowing what is new is a basic human need, since I guess we all fear missing out on something that might literally get us killed, like not hearing the call to lifeboats.

In this case, these chisels are new, and they answer the question, or might, "I need chisels, what should I buy?" People buy chisels every day. The people for whom this information is irrelevant, are probably people who would self-describe as "I own chisels".

Basically none of the heat is really applicable if you are looking for chisels, and the issues are of no interest if you already own chisels. The only weirdness is that the most knowledgeable commentators normally come from the group that self-describes, as "I wouldn't take another chisel if you gave it to me free". Because who wants to hear a guy talk about his chisels if he has never even owned a set that would be the last set he would ever buy? So we have a quandry, people who need chisels don't know squat, and people who don't need new chisels and are fed up even hearing about them, but have all the info.
