Woodies ()

Stephen Shepherd
I started out my apprenticeship with both, I had metal block and jack plane and an Ulmia wooden smoother. I only have one metal plane now, a rebate plane.

I like the feel of wooden planes, they don't damage things if you drop your plane on something you are working on. You can also drop a wooden plane on a concrete floor more than once. I seldom drop planes.

My reason for using wooden planes, most of them vintage is the better quality plane irons on old planes. Laminated blades are far superior to solid steel blades. I also have a few planes I have made and those too have laid steel blades.
