I started using Krenov style planes and a Primus of some sort. The problem is that I only need a plane from time to time in the course of fitting pieces into furniture. So when the needs arise and I reach for a plane it needs to work as expected without fiddling with the plane. Too much fiddling with these wooden planes when they sit for a while between needs.

For those that plane to plane I can understand the attraction of wood gliding on wood and shavings shooting out (when the cap iron is adjusted right). And they feel nice in the hand. But the fiddling was intolerable for my style of woodworking.
