What I am saying is that once there is a small deflection in the surface of the wood ahead of the cutter, there is a tiny wave of higher material that the plane rides on. So the force is not spread over the entire sole, but concentrated on the front edge of the mouth. The fact that people actually see the difference in surface quality by having a tight mouth is evidence that the force is sufficient to make a difference.
