On thinkingthis a little further, I suppose it's all a bit more complex.

The wood splinter acts like a leafspring. So it's going to be a matter to calculate how much force you need to press down the leafspring flat again. I'm afraid that's totally beyond the scope of my highschool phisics lessons.

How would you calculate the force needed at point A?
