I am not suggesting that you need to set the chipbreaker and the throat that tight to plane pine. or any reasonably well behaved wood.

Just showing that you can.

If a wider throat and a tight chipbreaker is working without problems then great, thats all you need.

When you hit some difficult wood, you may need to use everything in your box of tricks.

The idea is to get the best work done in the easiest way, so whatever works.
