The whole 'chipbreakers are good for nothing,' as far as I know is totally an internet phenomenon.
I've never read such a thing in the reputable woodworking press by a reputable, notable craftsman. If such articles exist, they are dwarfed by sources like David mentioned (and those that I mentioned in another thread), both in number and reputation of the writer.
