Re: What draws you to a piece/style of furniture?

I grew up with Swedish Modern of reasonable quality, and the first book I remember reading about furniture was one of Krenov's. You should probably get one of those books. He has a great approach, and he is small scale which might appeal to you.

As a woodworker, I find furniture a toughie. Cause as much as I was inspired by Krenov, the reality is that fancier furniture from earlier centuries is a greater challenge to make. In particular Krenov inspired me about planes, and if you want a lot of those, molding planes and other planes of the earlier period are more interesting. But I don't really want to live with that furniture, and in most places (maybe not around Philly) reproductions are not all that highly regarded.

That is why I like making boats and other technical items. I like to design them, I like to use them, and I don't worry too much about what happens to them (landfill for most furniture) because I had so much fun using them.
