Kato and Kawai published an instructional paper on setting the cap iron where they used the shaving structure as the means of getting it right. As they describe, and your video clearly shows, too close and the shavings compress and fold; just right and they shoot out of the plane only moderately compressed. The authors used the length of the shaving divided by the length planed as a measure of shaving compression and as I recall a factor of about 0.8 was about optimum.
If we get this paper translated and posted somewhere is it possible to link to it from your video? Can you link to the Kato video site from your video?
