Historical Evidence for the double iron () Charles
As to Krenov: I'm sure he preferred to end matters with a smoothing plane but I'm doubtful he had any compunction at all in going to the one-two punch of scraper then sandpaper if the plane was tearing the grain. Why he never fiddled wih the breaker and then subsequently imparted that wisdom in his several books is probably a point lost to history.
Setting a breaker close works, but it is a fiddly adjustment.
