The kruger brothers are really good, especially Jens (the banjo player). I think Jens is from another planet.
It sounds like the whole thing turned into a jam, where everyone stands around in groups playing.
Bluegrassers don't get paid a lot compared to most musicians, except for a very few (like Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs...that type), and generally are friendly folks. If the public had banjos and guitars, I'm pretty sure they would let them play, too.
There are a lot of stories of folks like Doc playing in a lobby of a place where they're going to play, either before or after a show, and inviting in anyone who cares to join them. For hours.
Jens and Uwe are supposedly similar, when they describe their day (where they're not out somewhere playing), it often amounts to going back and forth to each others' porches to noodle, or going up or down the road to other folks' houses to play music on their porches.
