What is good enough?

We have learned what can be done. What is the least one can get by with?

Again the Supersurfacer may answer the question. I recall you told me that with a blade similar to what we might have in a hand plane (carbon steel) that something like 1000' of shaving could be made before sharpening. So, presuming that an acceptable surface was produced during this planing what was the blade edge preparation and would this experience be relevant to a hand plane blade?
