A plea to understanding the planing discussions

These discussions are focusing on a plane part that bends the shavings. I have seen "cap iron, chip breaker, second iron" used in these discussions. What are we talking about? Is a second iron a different device in form or function from the thingy that holds the blade in a Bailey plane?
