I'm not sure I buy the idea it is superior. You can almost always make a superior product with composites. As the old guys knew when the laminated wear strips, but a lot of planing doesn't really cause that much wear. Speaking of C&W, I wonder what material that dark coloured jack plane is from the molding plane video.
