I was trained to deal with the burr in 1962. Yes, we called it a burr in 1962. I used the term burr on this forum on Monday. I used the "wire edge" term here to conform with your use. You wrote:

I was asking specifically if you removed the burr with every grit thirty years ago.
Your Stanley instructions do not say to remove the burr on each of several grit stones, and neither does Heath (1975). Hayward says to remove the burr by stropping.
