A convex bevel is going to limit the relief angle more than it needs to. If it is a matter of the convex bevel changing relief from something like 20 to 15, it's not that big of a deal. if it's a matter of it effectively changing relief from 15 to 5, then it's a problem.

I don't see any practical reason to have a convex bevel on a plane blade, unless it's a product of necessity from the sharpening method. That would lead me to change my sharpening method.

It's going to occur somewhat on thin plane irons freehand, but you don't necessarily need to encourage it to happen more than absolutely necessary on purpose.
