When I first asked on Badger Pond why tool steels were not used for hand tools I was told with great authority that it was because these steels could not be sharpened to a keen edge.

Bill, what are you saying here? How about a list of tool steels? Cause I always considered O1 and W1 as tool steels; but it sounds as if you don't.

Granted we've had many discussions about A2, M2, and HSS in which several have claimed they're impossible to sharpen, that O1/W1 we can get way sharper; but I don't recall segregating O1/W1 from the "tool steel" designation. Maybe a case of memory loss?
