You sold your 356???????!!!!!!!!!! Was this to make room for the bench (which seems to be getting better and better)?
Hi Pam
I sold the 356 because I had 11 years of restoration in it, and it needed much more. More relevantly, I estimated it needed about $25K more spent on it, and I could not justify this. Some of this was work I could save on by doing myself (as I had in the past), but specialists were needed to overhaul the gearbox, redo the interior completely, and a quality respray. I had struggled to find someone to do the gearbox for about 2 years, already "wasted" $6K on "experts". The expertise for these cars is in Melbourne (where the cars were first imported 60 years ago), and this is a long way away.
It took me a long time to accept that it had to go, and go before it deteriorated. It was still looking good ..
Man, that was like giving up cigarettes (that was 30 years ago)!!
I made a good sale. Over the years the value of these cars had escalated. With the proceeds I brought a "new" condition used sexy black Porsche Boxster S (ragtop). Lynndy loves it (she who used to refer to the 356 as the Menoporsche). With the top down, and wind in our hair, it is soooo therapeutic (better than a motorbike, even a BMW
- here in OZ one has to wear a helmet on a bike). I still miss the 356.
Regards from Perth
Derek
