Tom, I think that I prefer the traditional look ... however, as this bench progresses, I have an interest in adding features that are more obviously industrial - inspired by the steel wheel that comes with the Benchcrafted tail vise.

I am planning on building rollers for the parallel guide - again a Benchcrafted innovation - but where their brackets are made from wood, I am making mine from aluminium (to hold a skateboard wheel).

There was a time when I was interested in building steering wheels for vintage cars. I had a Derrington on my 1957 Porsche 356 (regretfully sold last year), and I was convinced that I could do a better job. It is not a complex construction, just laminations of wood sandwiching a flat aluminium plate.

I will stick to my Jarrah turning :)
