Re: Sharpening jig/grinding answer

Hi Pam

My comments are made with Bill's original question in mind. There are exceptions to every rule, and clearly you are one of the exceptions since you fall outside his topic.

Bill wrote, "I am not hoping, here, to re-open the discussion of freehand vs. jigged sharpening. I happen to like using a jig.

My current jig of choice is the Veritas Mk. II guide, which sets the bevel angle with great precision. The trouble comes if the chisel/plane blade is sharpened at an angle slightly different from the angle to which I've adjusted the blade in the guide".

My first post was about the aim of a honing guide (creating micro secondary bevels). My second post was the freehand alternative, but intended to reinforce the objective of efficiency I outlined earlier (of creating micro secondary bevels). You wish to talk about honing full bevels, which is not efficient. That is a topic for another place and time.

Regards from Perth

Derek
