Subject:
finished sandpaper cabinet *PIC*

McKay
I took a class with Chris Gochner at Snow college in central Utah and we built this little cabinet. I will use it as a sandpaper cabinet.

It is made from cherry with the center panel of gum wood. The glass is bamboo leaves. The top is held with hand cut dovetails. The bottom uses wedged through dovetails. The door uses through tenons and they are pegged using riven cherry plugs. I drove the pin about 3/32" down and used ebony as a cap. The cherry is treated with sodium hydroxide, (lye), shellac and pre-cat lac.
The trim was made using a rabbet plane for the back, a plough plane for the starting groove and then a #7 to bring down the chamfer.

The hinges were fumed with ammonia to blacken the bright brass.
Good class.
