Heat will release epoxy Pam. A heat gun will supply enough heat to release the tang and yet not have any effect on the temper.
Here`s my take on bolsters,if you`re going to be beating the sense out of it use a socket chisel, that`s why they were invented.
For paring chisels you don`t need much bolster if any at all. If you can split your handle while pushing a chisel by hand then I don`t want to shake hands with you any time soon.
For a chisel that may see some occasional mallet work then I have friend who grinds shoulders just ahead of the tang, drills whatever smaller coin he pulls out of his pocket, slides it over the tang and calls it good, no welding, brazing or epoxy needed. He burns the tangs into the handle after he presses on a ferrule and when the coin bottoms out he`s ready to go to work. He has replaced more than a few split handles (mostly because he uses kiln dried scraps instead of riven stock for handles) but has yet to have to replace any coin bolsters and quite a few of them are pennies because he`s wicked cheap.
