That’s a great solution to your needs—well thought out, simple but effective, versatile, and easy enough to build that you can get on with dovetailing instead of building fixtures.
In discussions of jigs the focus is often on whether to buy a jig or learn a hand skill. The ability to build your own jig for a particular purpose is itself a skill, and a very useful one. Yours is an excellent example.
