North of the Border
All my handplanes (seven of them) and dovetail saws (three) are Veritas products not because I am a Canuck, but because I trust that my purchases are always taken care of during and after the sale. I never think "Buy American Only" or, for that matter, "Buy Canadian Only" is a good purchase policy, because if everybody does that, the merchants or producers won't find any incentive to compete or improve their services. The reality is that those who do go by that buy-locally-only thinking are in the very small minority; the growth of Walmart and discount stores is proof.

Rather, we should support companies which show us that they care about our business, even if it means a temporary negative impact on the financial performance. Lee Valley, as you said, has shown such caring, time and time again.
