Subject:
Persimmon root wood

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA
One of our persimmon trees is dying, and we're taking it out. It turns out persimmons have huge roots - about five in this tree, with the larger ones being nearly the diameter of the trunk. Has anyone worked with the root wood, and is it worth the hazard of dirt and rocks to salvage it? I'm going to wind up with a decent amount of trunk to work with, so am not desperate for the root wood, unless it's different from the trunk wood.
