I am a sucker for online contests. I figure someone's gotta win, why not me? And it costs just a couple of minutes of my time. I've entered one lately in which the official rules state:

"One (1) winner will receive a $20,000 check. Winner will be notified and prize will be delivered approximately thirty (30) days from date of winner verification. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize (or portions thereof) of equal or greater value if prize (or portions thereof) cannot be awarded as described. Sponsor will determine all elements of prize in its sole discretion. Prize may not be assigned, transferred, or changed, except at Sponsor’s sole discretion. Prize is awarded “as is” with no warranty or guarantee express or implied by Sponsor."

Here I sit, scratching my head.
