Subject:
Bees wax question

Joe in a Cleveland suburb
I remember watching a Roy Underhill episode on line some time ago where he made a, I think it was called, dovetailed grease pot. In it he put some kind of mutton fat/grease or wax or something. When I re-watch the episode, he says it so fast that I am not sure what he is saying.

But I saw something about it recently and wondered about a hard chunk of bees wax I have. Using this wax, I sometimes scribble some wax lines on the bottom of a plane, or on a hand saw, screws, and/or similar uses.

I kinda remember reading here a while ago about melting wax and mixing in some kind of solvent to make a softer wax that would stay soft. Something like Crisco that you could put on your plane sole, screws, and so on.

Am I way off base in remembering this? Can you tell me the process of doing this?

Thanks!
