That style brings back memories (not all of them fond) of my first furniture project. It was a maple bookcase with the splayed, turned legs. I used an attachment method typical for the early '60s, with stamped steel brackets screwed to the bottom of the case, and a hanger bolt screwed into the top of each leg. Note that I am definitely NOT suggesting you use that methodology. It strongly reminds me of everything I have grown to dislike about Mid-Century Modern. I'm sure I'll find your interpretation much more to my liking.
