Re: The artist comments on furniture design

Clementine
Bill,

I have a book titled “Perspectives on American Furniture” edited by Gerald W. R. Ward that might be very interesting to you on the subject of design. There are twelve essays in this book that come out of the Winterthur Conference in 1985 entitled “Changing Perspectives on American Furniture.” Lots of pictures and drawings. If you’re interested in furniture history and research, this book is a worthy study.

Here are some of the essays:
“American Furniture in an International Context” by John T. Kirk.

“The Study of American Furniture from the Perspective of the Maker” by Edward S. Cooke, Jr.

“Timothy Loomis and the Economy of Joinery in Windsor, Connecticut, 1740-1786” by William N. Hosley, Jr.

“Gossip, Rhetoric, and Objects: A Sociolinguistic Approach to Newfoundland Furniture” by Gerald Pocius.
