Back in the black and white FWW days, there was an article about some native Americans in the NW who made boxes by cutting a joint at the corners allowing the board to be bent into a right angle. There was some curved knife that undercut the wood to allow the bending. If you have access to back issues or their archives, you could look it up. Maybe your wood would not be suitable for this technique.
