OT :Intercom in the shop ()

I have used the Panasonic cordless phone system for several years. It is not too expensive at less than $150, consists of the answering machine with handset and 4 remote handsets with chargers.

It has an Intercom built in and as my shop is detached it works quite well. I personally have never felt the need, but know there are several phone add-on devices that would allow loud alarms or flashing lights if desired. Actually I would rather not have them as I would worry I could become surprised / distracted while operating a power tool like the saw, joiner or router and either damage my work or myself!
