Keith The more I think about this the more I think it's the way to go. since I'm going to turn it I'll have to have a bottom and top anyway. Screwing the pieces to a bottom and top will also solve the problem of how to hold the door in place while it's turned. I can also fine tune the last stave just in case my measurements were off. 32 pieces doesn't leave a lot of error. I think I can use pocket screws so they won't show on the inside. They will be covered by the Walnut bottom and won't show.
