Commissions part deux *PIC*

And now for the big boys.....

I was commissioned to do 2 pieces for a client in Charlotte NC. They must have a big dining room. Both of these pieces are huge. In fact, they are generally the largest case pieces I have ever done.

When you have a one man shop, big pieces are more of a challenge. You have to get more resourceful about space utilization, methods of construction and moving the pieces.

First up is a wine cabinet. It is 6'-6" tall, 40" wide and 20" deep. The case and doors are made of curly cherry. The legs are ebonized walnut.

The second piece is a sideboard. It is 8' long, 31" tall and 22" deep. I tried to get away without a middle leg but that span was way too long. So there is a hidden middle leg.

Once again, the case and doors are curly cherry. Both pieces have panels with bird's eye maple, claro walnut, big leaf maple and zebra wood veneers. Dividing the veneers are ebonized "cames".

The sideboard has adjustable shelves and two drawers lined with Pacific silver cloth.

All I can say is that I might seriously consider having a size limit for future work. I ain't getting any younger!! A "white glove" shipper will be picking them up sometime soon. I can't wait to get them outta my shop!
