Mark,
After my research, I couldn't resist getting a UVC light. During the installation of the air handler, the junior member (third day on the job) couldn't resist plugging the light in, despite all sorts of stickers on the power supply warning not to look at the light while it was on. Well, "junior" ended up in the hospital with retinal burns, plus a week off from work. He was lucky as there was no long-term damage, not that anyone would notice. And, no, the junior member wasn't me - not this time ;) !

Regarding the bulb life, what I have read regarding the use life sorta depends on what one is expecting the bulb to do. If one expects that it will kill off airborne contaminates in the duct, then the bulb should be changed every year. If one is solely using it to kill stuff on the coils, two years is the limit. Supposedly, three years is the absolute max.
