UV is also used in aquariums for sensitive species. Water is extracted from the tank and passed through a coaxial tube which has a high-intensity UV lamp in the center and then placed back into the tank. Since the necessary (good) microorganisms live in the tank substrate and filtration beds only free-floating parasites are affected.
