Subject:
Another OT: Ultra Violet light In duct question

Barry Irby
I see systems advertised that puts an ultra violet light in your ducts and it is supposed to kill mold and germs. I occasionally see these in people's systems during home inspections. I am skeptical. I doubt that flying a germ or virus or mold spore past a UV light at the speed air moves in ducts will damage let alone kill the harmful stuff. I tried looking this up and got nothing I could understand. Does anyone have any information that actually supports this use of UV at a creditable level or that reduces it to snake oil? I am on the snake oil side right now but would like to believe. Mostly just hate a rip off.
