If 'glass is strong enough consider using foam for the core instead of plywood. You can add ribs of foam to give strength.

Strip canoes don't rely on the stripping for strength, just shape.

I wonder how strong FRP is to crushing and puncture??? I'm using it to panel my camper for other reasons. When I'm at my shop I'm going to go after some scrap with my mondo ball peen hammer!
