Today folks are beginning to think that maybe a 4 year college degree (or higher)is not a golden ticket to a job. Our society seems to have placed a lot of emphasis on college being the only path to success and foresaked vocational training. Turn the clocks ahead to today and folks aren't so dismissive of vocational education.
I think woodshop can have a place in education. However, there is not a huge demand for furniture makers. I would suggest that woodshop be broadened to include education in various areas of carpentry, building trades and related areas where tools are used. Some day (hopefully) the housing and construction industry will rebound. Folks with with woodworking and related skillsets will be needed.
