1. The metal handled things called "acid brushes". I toss them in the dishwasher after use and they come out dandy.

2. For large areas I have a short bristled paint brush. After use I sozzle it in water to remove much of the glue and into the dishwasher.

I would have a concern. Silicone rubbers leach tiny amounts of silicone. Probably not a significant problem in this application but then I am paranoid about the ill effects of tiny amounts of silicone on surfaces.
