I've kicked around several ideas on wood slides but the question of racking of a wide, not very deep drawer that Ellis raised and balkiness with moisture changes have made me lean towards ball bearings.

It would certainly be more fun to make something like side rails in a channel or an undermount. I've done center undermounts that work beautifully but in drawers half the width of the current one.
As a quick and dirty idea I see that Rockler sells premade dovetail style slides which would work either side or under mounted.

Which style of wood glides did you use on it?
