In many cases the 'inert' chemicals in the glyphosate concentrate have a strong influence on how effective the diluted spray is. In particular the surfactant/wetting agent can make the difference between healthy and dead. I try without fail to at least knock back an abundance of English Ivy growing in the woods front of my house -- probably 1/8 of an acre (and spreading). Regular Roundup, even at the strongest 'set phasers to kill' strength has essentially no effect because the plant's waxy cuticle prevents it from getting in. The only help is to add a goodly dose of dish washing liquid to the sprayer which allows the active ingredient to get past the wax and be absorbed.

If I thought that they'd eat it I'd fence in the area and borrow some goats...
