I agree with everything you said. These speakers are for a relative, a nice guy who knows somethings about audio but not much about woodworking, and he wanted mitered, birch plywood cabinets. So I took it on. Big mistake! Far easier to have used MDF with veneer -- and I believe the audio qualities of MDF are superior anyway. I'll NEVER again use miters and plywood together. (Although I do have to admit that when the edges come together it's a nice look; and, once together, not so delicate.)
Yes, I made two guitars: the first was a plectrum guitar entirely of the Martin design. I did it in a week-long class at Peters Valley in New Jersey years ago, run by two very experienced Martin guitar makers. In a sense, THEY made the thing, although they never touched it. But I did every step according to what I was told. (Just like the Krenov plane I made with David Fink.) My second one I did entirely on my own , but it was not a plectrum; it was a classical guitar. Would you believe that I THOUGHT the first one was a classical guitar because it was an acoustical instrument ( i.e. not electric) .That's how out of it I was. I couldn't even tune it. I started taking lessons with it and the first thing the teacher asked me was , "Who do you want to be?" I didn't know what he was talking about but finally got it and said, "O.K. Segovia". The teacher then told me I had the wrong kind of guitar. So I asked him what do I do now,and he said I guess you'll have to make another one. So I did. They both really are extremely fine instruments. I showed the classical one to some hotshot , who exclaimed how excellent it was and then gave me the bad news, which was that it would take me another 20 years to do it again as well! Something about the first one being better than expected and then really hard to get back there.
