Used that too, as I recall, my first 6" joiner (Grizzly) had talc recommended in the instruction book that came with the machine. Used it for several years - seemed to do ok. However I now have an awful lot of cast iron and bare steel in my shop and the wax seems to work better (as far as friction when feeding wood through the machines), and is somewhat faster to apply. I really never buff out the wax, just wipe it down hard with microfiber rags. Works ok for me.
