Lynn,
I usually scrub the top with Klingspor abrasive blocks and WD-40, wipe off, then apply a thin coat of Renaissance wax. I also keep the top covered during down times with an old flannel sheet. This seems to help prevent rust from forming especially during those spring times when the shop/table top may be cold compared to the humid much warmer outside air.
