Re: Table saw top - wood vs. car wax

Table saw top ()

Carol
Back in the day when I was teaching woodworking, we ran a little experiment. We ran a piece of masking tape down the middle of one side of a table saw top. Waxed one half with MinWax (same as Johnson's or Trewax for floors) and the other half with Turtle Wax for cars.

Then we put a small piece of wood on one side and attempted to blow it off the table. Good job for the blowhard in class. :) The attempted the other side - same piece of wood, same distance from the edge, same blowhard. The wax for wood proved slipperier every time. The car wax gave a nice shine but was not as slippery.

FWIW. It was fun, and wood wax is in the shop anyway. Might be a fun little thing at a woodworking club meeting.

Needless to say, I use wood wax. I did get a car buffer however. Apply a nice thin coat of wax, let it haze, buff out with the car buffer. Buffer was less than $20 and I use it on furniture all the time.
