I use Johnson's paste wax on all machined cast iron surfaces where sliding is involved, viz., table saw, jointer, planer bed, and bandsaw table. On my mortiser table, where the work is supposed to stay clamped to the table and the table are supposed to move together, I use something called "Bowling Alley Wax," which seems to be less slick and a little stickier (I guess maybe it's to make the bowling balls roll instead of slide). I have two partially used cans that are well over 40 years old. I don't know if this stuff is still sold at all, but it works well.
If the table gets rusty, I sand with 220 grit with a ROS set on the lowest speed and WD-40 on the table, then wipe off with rags prior to application of wax. When I put the disc on the ROS, I mis-orient the holes with the slots in the base so the built in vacuum will not pick up the sludge of rust with WD-40.
