I don't know about you but even if my work did not appeal to my wife I would still do it because I know I am building things I like and I enjoy doing it. Even without a ready market of friends and relatives I don't think I would ever be "finished" with woodworking.
I will continue to build things as long as I enjoy doing it. Similarly, if my relatives were beating down the doors for my work but I didn't enjoy the process then I would stop.
